Social Media and the Gym

Social Media and the Gym

It just hit me, I have been doing teen fitness blogs for almost a year now, and I don’t have a single article about social media. It's time to change that, but let me give you slightly different advice than usual to ensure this blog is worth your time.
Now we’ve all heard the run-of-the-mill advice of “don’t believe what you see online” and “Don’t compare yourself to people online,” and unsurprisingly, that is completely true, but the gym and exercise community on social media is so much more than a bunch of shallow roid users, it's people who have worked hard, people who have persevered to achieve what they have, and I believe there’s a lot to learn from each one of them. Now, I’m not telling you to follow what they’ve done exactly, but instead get inspired by the good sides of their characters and apply (only the good parts) to your routines. While you do this, make sure you don’t just blindly follow what they tell you (that’s where the “don’t trust everything you see” comes in), and instead make sense of what they’re saying, do your own research, and then decide what to do.
Furthermore, social media is a place where you will see lots of people posting their progress and stories, and it’s important that you respect and support that. If you see your friends posting their workout transformations, go ahead and hype them up! Fitness is personal, and posting it takes confidence, so they don’t need someone telling them they’re “not impressive”. Even if you genuinely have something to advise them about, never do it condescendingly. If you want to help, maybe send them a respectful DM, asking if they would like feedback, and saying it in a way that shows them that you care and are not trying to one-up them.
Well, that’s it, the first social media blog after about a year of teen fitness blogs, and now that it has finally hit me, there might be more coming out soon. But until then, go out there and crush it!!
