Dressed to lift

Your gym outfit shouldn’t be the hardest part of your workout. With certain people in the gym dressing to walk the runway right after their set, to other roaming around in flip-flops, knowing what to wear can make sure your comfortable- without the stink, and the embarrassment of looking like you walked into the wrong place.
What to wear:
Tshirts/tank tops
Don’t go around buying that 150 AED Nike shirt, instead buy something that fits you well and is made of a sweat resistant material polyester or blended fabrics (with nylon, spandex etc.) These materials make sure you’re not drenched in sweat by allowing quicker evaporation.  Avoid materials like cotton that retain sweat making you leave a wet patch wherever you go, and don’t wear baggy or oversized T-shirts that could get caught in machines.
Shorts/Track pants/ Leggings
When you finally decide to train legs, your pants shouldn’t be the reason you go back to upper body. By pants that are comfortable and fit you well, preferably made of similar moisture wicking materials like your T-shirt. These pants shouldn’t restrict your movement and a good way to check for that is to try squatting with them at home and see how comfortable that is.
Shoes
You CANNOT wear flip-flops or crocs to the gym. A lot of people suggest that you don’t really need shoes unless you’re on the treadmill or other cardio machines, but wearing shoes in beneficial event when you’re lifting. Dr Rajesh Garg, an orthopedic surgeon in the UAE, says that wearing shoes gives you an extra layer of protection incase a weight falls on your foot. Obviously, the shoes wouldn’t prevent a bone injury if the weight is heavy, but it does prevent the skin from getting scratched, making recovery much easier. Loose footwear gets in the way when your exercising, ruining your movement when doing exercises like lunges or squats.
Gloves
Gloves in most cases are optional, but while flexing your calluses maybe cool, heavier weights can tear through your skin. Gloves also give you a better grip on the weights decreasing the risk of you dropping the weights and injuring yourself.
So that’s a quick rundown on how to dress in the gym, but genuinely unless you wear some really questionable clothes, no one really cares about what you wear, so as long as you’re comfortable, not stinking and aren’t drenched in sweat you should be fine.
